Daniel Melero released Conga in 1988, a pioneering album that merged Argentine rock with synthesizers and experimental electronic rhythms. Recorded in Buenos Aires, it reflected his interest in dance music and psychedelia, moving away from the traditional sound of national rock. The record included songs like El Tiempo and La Nave, which combined surreal lyrics with programmed beats.

The production of Conga was handmade, using limited equipment such as drum machines and analog keyboards, giving it a lo-fi and avant-garde character. Melero worked mostly alone on the album, exploring sonic textures that anticipated Latin American electronic music. Although it did not achieve major commercial success initially, over the years it became a cult classic.

This album marked a turning point in Melero’s career, as he had previously played in more conventional rock bands. Conga influenced later generations of Argentine musicians interested in blending tropical rhythms with electronics. Its legacy endures as an early example of sonic experimentation in the Southern Cone.
