The album Tecno by Daniel Melero, released in 2000, marks a turning point in his career after leaving Los Auténticos Decadentes. Recorded in his home studio, the record explores a synthesis between Argentine rock and avant-garde electronic music. Melero used samplers and analog synthesizers to create cold, mechanical soundscapes paired with introspective and poetic lyrics.

The album’s production was nearly a solo endeavor, with Melero playing most instruments and programming the electronic beats. Songs like Baja el sol and El tiempo se detienen develop a hypnotic atmosphere that foreshadowed the Buenos Aires underground scene. Critics received it as a risky work that broke away from the danceable sound of his previous projects.

Tecno did not achieve major commercial success, but it became a cult record for fans of Argentine experimental electronic music. Its dark, minimalist aesthetic influenced later artists seeking to merge pop with digital textures. Today it is considered a precursor to electroclash and indie electronic music in the country.
