'Traigo un pueblo en mi voz' is an album that Mercedes Sosa released in 1973, the year of Perón's return to Argentina and his electoral triumph. The title reflects the idea that Mercedes does not sing alone, but carries in her voice the voice of her people, of the workers, of the peasants, of those who have no voice. Recorded at RCA studios, the album presents a repertoire of songs committed to popular struggles, but also to the joy and hope of a new time that seemed to be opening with the return of Peronism to power.

The album includes songs such as 'Traigo un pueblo en mi voz', 'Zamba del nuevo día', 'Para los que luchan' and 'Canción para mi América'. The lyrics speak of popular organization, Latin American unity and the construction of a more just and solidary society. Mercedes' voice sounds full of hope and energy, as if she shared the enthusiasm of millions of Argentines who saw a better future as possible. The arrangements are more festive than in previous albums, with a prominence of percussion and winds that give the album a joyful and mobilizing character.

The legacy of 'Traigo un pueblo en mi voz' is that of an album that captures the illusion of a time of change, but also bears witness to the beginning of the political violence that would lead to the 1976 coup d'état. Five months after its release, Perón died and the country entered a spiral of violence that would end democracy. Mercedes, who had been persecuted by the Triple A and by right-wing paramilitary groups, went into exile in Spain and France. 'Traigo un pueblo en mi voz' is, therefore, a testimony of a time of hope, but also the swan song of an era that was fading into violence.
