Green Is Blues is Al Green's second studio album, released in 1969 on Hi Records. It was recorded at Royal Recording Studios in Memphis, Tennessee, produced by Willie Mitchell, who would become his key collaborator. This album marked the beginning of the successful partnership between Green and Mitchell.

The record blends covers of soul and R&B songs with original compositions, highlighting tracks like "I Can't Get Next to You" (originally by The Temptations) and "One Woman". Although not a massive hit, the album reached number 19 on Billboard's R&B albums chart and laid the foundation for Green's signature sound.

Green Is Blues is considered a turning point in Al Green's career, as it defined his smooth soul style and distinctive voice. The album was reissued in 1971 with a different cover, and today it is valued as an early classic of Southern soul.
