Trust in God is Al Green's seventh gospel album, released in 1984 by Myrrh Records. After his ordination as pastor of the Full Gospel Tabernacle Church in Memphis, Green devoted himself exclusively to religious music, and this album continues that line with a soul-gospel sound combining exuberant choirs and his unmistakable falsetto voice.
The album includes original songs written by Green, such as 'Trust in God' and 'He Is the Light', along with versions of traditional hymns. The production, again handled by the artist himself, stands out for its minimalist yet emotional approach, with organ, piano, and string sections enhancing the devotional atmosphere.
Trust in God was nominated for a Grammy in the Best Soul Gospel Performance category, though it did not win. The album solidified Green as a central figure in 1980s contemporary gospel, and although it had little commercial exposure, it is valued by collectors and critics as a sincere work from his spiritual period.
