Released on May 3, 2011, 'A Woman Falling Out of Love' was Aretha Franklin's first studio album in seven years, following 'So Damn Happy' (2003). It was released under her own label, Aretha Records, and distributed by Sony Music Entertainment.
The album features collaborations with renowned producers such as Kanye West, André 3000, and Babyface, as well as guest appearances by Trombone Shorty and André 3000 himself on the song 'I Will Survive'. Recording took place in various studios across the United States between 2009 and 2010.
Despite mixed reviews, the album debuted at number 54 on the Billboard 200 and reached number 4 on the R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. The song 'How Long I've Been Waiting' was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance in 2012.
