Just Coolin' is an album by Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers recorded on March 8, 1959 at Rudy Van Gelder's studio in Hackensack, New Jersey. The session was originally produced for Blue Note Records but remained unreleased for over six decades.
The album was discovered in the Blue Note archives and finally released on July 17, 2020. The lineup includes Lee Morgan (trumpet), Hank Mobley (tenor saxophone), Bobby Timmons (piano), and Jymie Merritt (bass), with Blakey on drums.
Just Coolin' features original compositions by band members, including the title track by Hank Mobley and 'Hipsippy Blues' by Bobby Timmons. The 2020 edition includes liner notes by Bob Blumenthal and photographs by Francis Wolff.
