Bill Evans recorded 'We Will Meet Again' in August 1979, just one month before his death. It was his final studio album and is dedicated to his brother Harry Evans, who had passed away that same year. The title reflects both farewell and the hope of reunion.
The album features two different lineups: a quintet including Tom Harrell (trumpet), Larry Schneider (tenor saxophone), Marc Johnson (bass), and Joe LaBarbera (drums); and a trio with Johnson and LaBarbera. Notable is the participation of guitarist Larry Coryell on two tracks, and the voice of opera singer Arleen Augér on the final choral piece.
The title track, 'We Will Meet Again', is an original composition by Bill Evans. The album was released posthumously in 1980 by Warner Bros. Records and has been regarded as a moving musical testament, showing Evans at his expressive peak despite his fragile health.
