'Last Recording' is Billie Holiday's final album, released posthumously in 1959 by MGM Records. It was recorded in March 1959, just four months before her death on July 17 of that year. The sessions were produced by Ray Ellis, who also conducted the orchestra.
The album captures Holiday in a very deteriorated physical state, with a fragile but emotionally charged voice. It includes versions of songs such as 'All of You' and 'I'm a Fool to Want You', which reflect her personal suffering. The recording took place in New York.
Although initially receiving mixed reviews due to vocal quality, over time 'Last Recording' has been revalued as a moving document of her legacy. It is the final masterpiece of one of the most influential voices in jazz.
