Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid is the original soundtrack for the eponymous film directed by Sam Peckinpah, in which Bob Dylan also played a small role as the character 'Alias'. The album was released on July 13, 1973.

The recording took place in several sessions between January and February 1973, with musicians including Roger McGuinn (guitar), Booker T. Jones (bass), and Ron Cornelius (guitar). Dylan composed most of the songs specifically for the film, including the classic 'Knockin' on Heaven's Door'.

The album reached number 16 on the Billboard 200 chart and was certified gold in the United States. Although initially receiving mixed reviews, it has been re-evaluated over time as a significant work within Dylan's filmography.
