Slow Train Coming is Bob Dylan's nineteenth studio album, released on August 20, 1979. It is the first album of his 'Christian trilogy', marking his conversion to evangelical Christianity. It was recorded at the legendary Muscle Shoals Sound Studio in Alabama, with producers Jerry Wexler and Barry Beckett.
The album was a commercial and critical success, reaching number 3 on the Billboard 200 chart and number 2 in the UK. The song 'Gotta Serve Somebody' won the Grammy Award for Best Male Rock Vocal Performance in 1980. Musically, it blends rock, blues, and soul with explicitly religious lyrics.
Despite initial controversy over its Christian themes, Slow Train Coming is considered one of Dylan's strongest albums of the late 1970s. The backing band included Muscle Shoals session musicians, as well as guitarist Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits, who significantly contributed to the album's sound.
