Together Through Life is Bob Dylan's thirty-third studio album, released on April 28, 2009. It was produced by Dylan himself under the pseudonym Jack Frost. The album was recorded in December 2008 at studios in Santa Monica, California, with musicians including Mike Campbell (guitarist for Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers) and David Hidalgo (of Los Lobos).
The album originated when Dylan wrote the song 'Life Is Hard' for the soundtrack of the film 'My Own Love Song', directed by Olivier Dahan. From there, Dylan decided to expand the project into a full album, inspired by Chicago blues and rockabilly. The record debuted at number 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, becoming Dylan's first album to reach that position since 'Desire' in 1976.
The album's lyrics were co-written with Robert Hunter, lyricist for the Grateful Dead, marking Dylan's first collaboration with a co-writer since 1991. The album's sound is notably more bluesy and romantic than previous works, with an emphasis on accordion and slide guitar. Critical reception was generally positive, highlighting its cohesion and nostalgic atmosphere.
