This album was recorded in New York in 1958, and is Chet Baker's second album as a singer, following his successful 'Chet Baker Sings' from 1954. The production was handled by Riverside Records, which sought to capitalize on Baker's vocal success, although the trumpeter was already showing signs of deterioration due to his heroin addiction.

The album features Baker accompanied by a quartet including pianist Kenny Drew, bassist Sam Jones, and drummer Philly Joe Jones. The songs are standards from the Great American Songbook, performed in Baker's characteristic whispering and fragile style, contrasting with his instrumental prowess.

Although it did not reach the same sales level as his first vocal album, 'It Could Happen to You' is considered a classic of vocal jazz. The recording captures Baker at a transitional moment, before his personal problems more deeply affected his career.
