Chick Corea conceived 'The Ultimate Adventure' as a musical suite inspired by the science fiction novel 'The Ultimate Adventure' by writer L. Ron Hubbard. The album was recorded in 2003 and released by Stretch Records, a label founded by Corea himself.
The work features a rotating cast of musicians, including saxophonists Steve Wilson and Tim Garland, bassist Eddie Gómez, drummer Dave Weckl, and percussionist Airto Moreira, among others. The album won the Grammy Award in 2006 for Best Jazz Instrumental Performance, Small Group category.
The album is structured in three parts narrating an epic journey, blending elements of jazz fusion, classical music, and world music. It was recorded at Mad Hatter Studios in Los Angeles, California.
