Dean Martin recorded 'French Style' in 1962, a concept album paying homage to French chanson, with orchestral arrangements by Neal Hefti. The album was released by Reprise Records, the label founded by Frank Sinatra, and reflects Martin's taste for international music.
The album includes English versions of French classics such as 'C'est Magnifique' and 'The Poor People of Paris', as well as original songs with Gallic influence. Although not one of his biggest commercial successes, it showcased Martin's versatility as a romantic ballad singer.
Production was handled by Lee Gillette, Martin's frequent collaborator, and the sessions took place at Reprise Studios in Los Angeles. The album reached number 140 on the Billboard 200 chart and remained in print for several years.
