Masterpieces by Ellington was Duke Ellington's first long-playing album, released in 1951 by Columbia Records. The record marked a milestone by presenting extended versions of his classic compositions, taking advantage of the 33⅓ RPM LP format.

The recording sessions took place in New York City between December 1950 and January 1951. Producer George Avakian oversaw the project, which included more complex orchestral arrangements and improvised solos by musicians such as Johnny Hodges and Ray Nance.

The album was a critical and commercial success, establishing Ellington as an innovator in the LP era. The centerpiece, 'The Tattooed Bride', is an eleven-minute suite showcasing his mastery of extended composition.
