Love Letters from Elvis was released on June 16, 1971, by RCA Victor. The album reached number 33 on the Billboard 200 chart and number 1 on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart. It was Elvis's first studio album of 1971 and continued his successful streak following his return to live performances in Las Vegas.

The album includes a mix of songs recorded during the June 1970 sessions in Nashville, as well as overdubs made at Elvis's home studio in Graceland. The title track, 'Love Letters', is a cover of Ketty Lester's 1961 hit, and Elvis also recorded covers of songs by artists such as The Beatles ('Hey Jude') and The Righteous Brothers ('You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin').

The album cover features a photograph of Elvis taken by Ed Bonner, with a design that includes a red background and gold lettering. Although the album did not produce major hit singles, 'Love Letters' was released as a single in some markets and reached number 19 on the Billboard singles chart in the United Kingdom.
