Trilogy: Past Present Future is a conceptual triple album released in 1980 by Reprise Records, produced by Sonny Burke. It was Sinatra's first studio album in seven years and one of the most ambitious projects of his career, divided into three discs: 'The Past' (classic standards), 'The Present' (contemporary songs), and 'The Future' (an orchestral suite composed by Gordon Jenkins).
The recording sessions took place between 1979 and 1980 at various studios in Los Angeles and New York. The album reached number 17 on the Billboard 200 chart and was nominated for several Grammy Awards, including Best Male Pop Vocal Performance for the song 'Theme from New York, New York', which became an iconic Sinatra anthem.
Despite its ambition, Trilogy received mixed reviews for its length and the inclusion of Jenkins' futuristic suite. However, the track 'New York, New York' became one of Sinatra's greatest hits, and the album is remembered as a milestone in his late discography.
