Where Are You? is the first studio album by Frank Sinatra for Capitol Records to exclusively feature arranger Gordon Jenkins. Recorded between April and May 1957, the album marks a shift toward a repertoire of melancholic ballads and lush orchestrations, moving away from the swing style of his earlier work.
The album reached number 3 on the Billboard 200 chart and was certified gold by the RIAA. Critics praised the emotional depth of Sinatra's performance, especially on tracks like 'The Night We Called It a Day' and the title track 'Where Are You?'.
Despite its success, Sinatra was not entirely satisfied with the final result, feeling that Voyle Gilmore's production was too polished. However, the album is now considered a classic of the orchestral ballad genre and a precursor to his future 'concept albums'.
