War Babies is the second studio album by Hall & Oates, released in October 1974. It was produced by Todd Rundgren, known for his work with artists like The Band and Meat Loaf, and recorded at Secret Sound Studios in New York City. The album marked a shift towards a more experimental and rock-oriented sound, moving away from the folk-soul style of their debut.

Despite Rundgren's production, the album failed to achieve commercial success, peaking at only number 86 on the Billboard 200 chart. The title track 'War Babies' and 'Beanie G. and the Rose Tattoo' were released as singles, but neither charted. The album cover, designed by John Oates, reflects the war-themed and psychedelic tone of the record.

The album is considered a rarity in the duo's discography, as it was the only one produced by Rundgren and the last for Atlantic Records before their move to RCA. Over time, it has gained a cult following among Hall & Oates fans, though it remains one of their least-known works.
