The album includes re-recorded versions of songs that appeared on the unauthorized 1977 release also titled Magazine. The band sued Mushroom to prevent the original mixes from being published.
Musically, Magazine shows a transition toward a more polished sound, with tracks like 'Heartless' and 'Without You'. It peaked at number 17 on the Billboard 200 and was certified platinum.
