Released in 1970 by Chess Records, 'Message to the Young' was Howlin' Wolf's last studio album. It was produced by Norman Dayron and featured musicians such as Hubert Sumlin and Lafayette Leake.

The album reflects a return to a more traditional blues sound, though with influences of soul and funk from the era. It includes original compositions and covers of songs by other artists, such as Bob Dylan's 'Just Like a Woman'.

Although it did not achieve major commercial success, the album is valued by critics as a worthy late work. Wolf died in 1976, leaving this record as his final musical testament.
