This album was released in 1969 on Cadet Concept, a subsidiary label of Chess Records. It represents Howlin' Wolf's attempt to adapt to the psychedelic and rock sound of the era, with arrangements by Charles Stepney.
The recording took place in Los Angeles in 1968, with session musicians and an experimental approach that included organ and distorted guitars. Wolf expressed his dissatisfaction with the result, considering it a betrayal of his original blues style.
Despite the controversy, the album reached number 169 on the Billboard 200 chart. It includes updated versions of classics like 'Smokestack Lightning' and 'Spoonful', but with a very different sound from his original recordings.
