'Préliminaires' is the fifteenth solo studio album by Iggy Pop, released on June 2, 2009. The album was inspired by the novel 'The Possibility of an Island' by Michel Houellebecq, and features a softer, jazzier style, moving away from Iggy Pop's characteristic punk rock.
The recording featured collaborations with jazz and blues musicians, and the album includes a cover of 'Les Feuilles Mortes' (Autumn Leaves) in French. Iggy Pop stated that he wanted to explore a more melodic and experimental sound, influenced by French music and cabaret.
The album received generally positive reviews, although some punk fans were surprised by the change in style. It peaked at number 176 on the Billboard 200 chart and number 5 on the Billboard Jazz Albums chart. Iggy Pop undertook a promotional tour across Europe and the United States.
