James Brown released 'A Soulful Christmas' in November 1968, his first Christmas album. It was recorded at King Records studios in Cincinnati, Ohio, and produced by Brown himself.
The album blends Christmas standards with Brown's signature funk and soul style, including versions of 'Santa Claus Go Straight to the Ghetto' and 'Sweet Little Baby Boy'. It peaked at number 12 on the Billboard R&B Albums chart.
Although not a massive commercial success, the album has become a classic of soul Christmas music and has been reissued multiple times, including remastered CD versions.
