Prisoner of Love is James Brown's third studio album, released in 1963 by King Records. The album was recorded at King Studios in Cincinnati, Ohio, and produced by James Brown himself.
The album's title comes from the lead track, a cover of the 1946 hit by Billy Eckstine. Brown transformed the ballad into an intense soul blues, which became a minor hit on the R&B charts.
The album features a mix of covers of soul and blues standards, as well as original compositions by Brown. Although not as successful as his later works, it marked an important step in his artistic evolution.
