The album features collaborations with musicians such as Keith Richards, Ronnie Wood, Neil Young, and Robbie Robertson, who contributed guitars and backing vocals. The title track is a cover of a Chuck Berry song.
Rock & Roll Time received mixed reviews, praising Lewis's piano energy but noting uneven production. The album reached number 140 on the Billboard 200 chart, becoming his last studio work before his death in 2022.
