Whose Garden Was This is John Denver's third studio album, released in 1970. It was produced by Milton Okun, who collaborated with Denver on several of his early works. The album reflects the folk and country style that would characterize the artist's career.

The album's title comes from the title track, written by Tom Paxton. Although the record did not achieve the massive commercial success of later works, it includes songs that showcase Denver's ecological and lyrical sensitivity, such as 'The Garden Song' and 'The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down'.

Recorded at RCA Studios in New York, the album featured session musicians like Eric Weissberg and Bill Danoff. Despite not generating major singles, it laid the foundation for the sound Denver would perfect in his subsequent releases.
