Gone Girl is the 47th studio album by Johnny Cash, released in October 1978 by Columbia Records. It was produced by Larry Butler, who collaborated with Cash on several albums of the era. The album reached number 62 on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart.
The title track, 'Gone Girl', was written by Jack Clement and became a minor single, peaking at number 44 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart. The album includes covers of songs by artists such as Bob Dylan ('Wanted Man') and Kris Kristofferson ('The Last Time'), as well as original compositions by Cash.
The album reflects Cash's characteristic country and folk style of that decade, although it did not achieve the commercial success of his earlier works. It was one of Cash's last albums for Columbia before his departure from the label in the early 1980s.
