The Holy Land is a concept album by Johnny Cash released in 1969, narrating the biblical history and geography of the Holy Land. Cash was inspired by a trip he took to Israel in 1968, where he visited places such as Jerusalem, the Dead Sea, and the Mount of Olives. The album includes spoken narrations and songs describing events from the Old and New Testaments.
The album was recorded at Columbia Studios in Nashville, produced by Bob Johnston. Cash was joined by his wife June Carter Cash and the band The Tennessee Three. Although it was not a massive commercial success, the album was well received by critics and is considered an important personal and spiritual work in Cash's discography.
The album cover features a photograph of Cash in the Judean Desert, taken during his trip. The album was reissued on CD in 2002 by Columbia Records, including bonus tracks such as alternate versions and live recordings. The Holy Land reflects Cash's deep Christian faith and his interest in biblical history.
