The album was released on March 15, 2024. It is Kacey Musgraves' sixth studio album and marks a return to a more folk and introspective sound, moving away from the pop of her previous work.
The songs were written during a period of personal reflection following her divorce and a move to New York City. Production was handled by Musgraves herself along with Daniel Tashian and Ian Fitchuk, who previously collaborated on Golden Hour.
The album title refers to a deeper well as a metaphor for inner search. The lead single, "Deeper Well", was released in February 2024 and received praise for its honest lyricism and minimalist production.
