The Prelude Implicit is the fourteenth studio album by the American progressive rock band Kansas, released on September 23, 2016. It was the band's first album in 16 years, after a long hiatus, and the first without founding guitarist and vocalist Kerry Livgren, although it includes songwriting contributions from him.
The album was recorded in several studios, including drummer Phil Ehart's personal studio in Atlanta, Georgia, and produced by Zak Rizvi and Jeff Glixman. It marks the debut of guitarist Zak Rizvi as an official band member, and features violinist David Ragsdale and vocalist Ronnie Platt, who joined Kansas in 2014.
The Prelude Implicit received generally positive reviews, with praise for its return to the band's progressive rock roots. The lead single, 'With This Heart', was well received, and the album reached number 14 on the Billboard 200 chart, becoming Kansas's highest-charting studio album since 'Monolith' (1979).
