Book of Ways is a double album by Keith Jarrett recorded in December 1986 at Tonstudio Bauer, Ludwigsburg. The album features Jarrett playing the clavichord, a plucked string keyboard instrument, in a series of solo improvisations.
The title refers to the exploration of different musical paths within the Baroque and Renaissance tradition. Jarrett uses two clavichords tuned differently to create tonal contrasts and unique textures throughout the twelve pieces.
The album was released in 1987 by ECM and received praise for its minimalist and meditative approach. Unlike other works by Jarrett, Book of Ways moves away from jazz and delves into early music, showcasing his versatility as an improviser.
