GNX is Kendrick Lamar's sixth studio album, released on November 22, 2024. The title references the Buick GNX car, a status symbol in Compton's lowrider culture, and also alludes to the vehicle's speed and power as a metaphor for the artist's lyrical agility.
The album was recorded between 2023 and 2024 at various Los Angeles studios, including Henson Recording, Conway Recording Studios, and No Name Studios. Production was handled by an extensive team led by Sounwave and Jack Antonoff, with contributions from Kamasi Washington, Terrace Martin, and DJ Dahi, among others. GNX marks a return to West Coast rap roots, blending jazz, funk, and soul with experimental beats.
The album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, selling over 500,000 equivalent units in its first week. It was critically acclaimed as a hip-hop conceptual masterpiece, highlighting themes of African American identity, social criticism, and personal introspection. The promotional 'GNX World Tour' began in January 2025.
