Light of Worlds is the sixth studio album by Kool & the Gang, released in 1974. It was recorded at De-Lite Studios in New York and produced by the band. The album continues the exploration of funk and soul, but incorporates more spiritual and melodic elements, influenced by jazz and African music.
The album includes the hit single 'Higher Plane', which reached number 1 on the Billboard Hot Soul Singles chart. It also contains 'Rhyme Tyme People', another minor hit, and the instrumental track 'Summer Madness', which became a classic and was widely sampled in hip-hop and electronic music.
Light of Worlds was well received by critics and peaked at number 16 on the Billboard Top Soul Albums chart. Although it did not repeat the massive commercial success of its predecessor, it is considered a key album in the evolution of the band's sound and a favorite among funk collectors.
