Spirit of the Boogie is the seventh studio album by Kool & the Gang, released in 1975. It was recorded at De-Lite Records studios in Englewood, New Jersey, and produced by the band itself. The album represents a continuation of the funk and soul sound that characterized the band at that time, with influences of jazz and danceable rhythms.
The album reached number 8 on the Billboard Top Soul Albums chart and number 48 on the Billboard 200 chart. The title track, 'Spirit of the Boogie', became a minor hit, peaking at number 35 on the Billboard Hot Soul Singles chart. Other notable songs include 'Caribbean Festival' and 'Ancestral Ceremony', which showcase the fusion of Caribbean and African rhythms.
Although not one of the band's best-selling albums, Spirit of the Boogie is considered by critics to be a solid work reflecting Kool & the Gang's musical maturity. The album cover, designed by graphic artist Bob Heimall, features a psychedelic image that captures the spiritual and festive essence of the title.
