Negro Sinful Songs is a compilation album by Lead Belly released in 1939 by Musicraft Records. It includes recordings made in New York City that same year, supervised by folklorists John A. Lomax and Alan Lomax.
The album features traditional African American songs covering themes from prison work to ballads and spirituals. Lead Belly performs with his characteristic 12-string guitar style and powerful voice.
This album was one of the first to bring African American folk music to a white urban audience. Its title reflects the contemporary perception of Lead Belly's music as transgressive and authentic.
