Little Richard recorded this gospel album after abandoning rock and roll in 1957, following his religious conversion. It was released by Mercury Records in 1961, though sessions began in 1959.
The album reflects his Pentecostal devotion, with traditional hymns and original compositions. It features gospel choirs and a passionate vocal style, far from his earlier rock sound.
Although it did not achieve the commercial success of his secular work, the album is considered an authentic expression of his faith. Little Richard would return to rock in 1962, but always kept his interest in gospel music.
