Lynyrd Skynyrd 1991 is the band's seventh studio album, released on June 11, 1991. It was the first album with guitarist Mike Estes and drummer Kurt Custer, following the departures of Allen Collins and Artimus Pyle.

The album marked a return to classic Southern rock sound, though it did not achieve the commercial success of earlier works. It includes the single 'Smokestack Lightning', which received some rock radio airplay.

Recording took place in Nashville with producers Tom Dowd, Jimmy Johnson, and Tim Smith. Dowd had previously worked with the band in the 1970s, bringing continuity to their signature sound.
