Let's Get It On is the thirteenth studio album by Marvin Gaye, released on August 28, 1973. It represented a thematic shift towards sensuality and sexual spirituality, moving away from the political and social themes of his previous masterpiece, What's Going On.
The album was recorded between 1970 and 1973 at Hitsville U.S.A. and United Sound Studios in Detroit. The title track, 'Let's Get It On', became Gaye's first number-one single on the Billboard Hot 100 since 'I Heard It Through the Grapevine' in 1968.
Let's Get It On peaked at number 2 on the Billboard 200 chart and number 1 on the R&B albums chart. It has been certified multi-platinum by the RIAA and is considered one of the most influential albums in soul and R&B, defining the 'quiet storm' sound.
