Moods of Marvin Gaye is the sixth studio album by Marvin Gaye, released on July 4, 1966, by Tamla, a Motown label. The album showcases a variety of styles, from romantic ballads to uptempo tracks, reflecting Gaye's vocal versatility. It was produced by several of Motown's top producers, including Norman Whitfield and Smokey Robinson.
The album reached number 8 on the Billboard Top R&B Albums chart and number 118 on the Billboard 200. It includes the hit singles "Take This Heart of Mine" and "Little Darling (I Need You)", both written and produced by the Holland Dozier Holland team. The song "I'll Be Doggone" was also a success, reaching number 1 on the R&B chart.
Despite not being considered one of Gaye's most innovative works, Moods of Marvin Gaye solidified his reputation as a ballad and soul performer. The album was reissued on CD in 1990 with bonus tracks, and in 2012 as part of an expanded edition. The cover features Gaye with a serious expression, dressed in a dark suit.
