This album was recorded in Chicago in 1972 and produced by Ralph Bass. Muddy Waters returned to a rawer, more traditional Chicago blues sound, moving away from the rock style of his London sessions.
The title refers to a blues slang expression. The album includes original compositions by Waters and covers of classic songs, with his regular band of the time, including Pinetop Perkins and James Cotton.
Can't Get No Grindin' did not have the same commercial impact as earlier works, but it is valued by blues fans for its authenticity and Waters' powerful voice. It was one of Waters' last albums for Chess Records.
