Muddy, Brass & the Blues is a Muddy Waters album released in 1966 on Chess Records. It represents an attempt to modernize his sound by adding horn sections and smoother arrangements, influenced by the soul and rhythm and blues of the era.
Recorded in Chicago, the album featured session musicians and Waters' band, including Otis Spann and James Cotton. Production was by Leonard and Phil Chess. The result is a more commercial sound than the raw blues of his earlier work.
The album includes covers of songs by artists like Jimmy Reed and Willie Dixon. Although not a massive hit, it shows Waters' versatility. It was reissued on CD in the 1990s with bonus tracks.
