Still Life (Talking) is Pat Metheny's ninth studio album, released in 1987. It was recorded in June of that year at The Power Station, New York, and mixed at various studios. The album marks the first collaboration between Metheny and producer/musician Lyle Mays, who co-wrote most of the tracks.
The album features a fusion of jazz, pop, and world music, with Brazilian and African influences. Notable songs include 'Last Train Home', which became a radio hit, and 'Minuano (Six Eight)', a complex instrumental piece. The cover art was designed by American artist Barbara Kruger.
Still Life (Talking) reached number 1 on the Billboard Top Jazz Albums chart and was nominated for a Grammy Award. It is considered one of Metheny's most accessible works, combining catchy melodies with sophisticated improvisation.
