Travels is a live album by the Pat Metheny Group, released in 1983 on ECM Records. It was recorded during the 1982-1983 tour, following the studio album Offramp (1982). The group included Pat Metheny (guitars), Lyle Mays (pianos and synthesizers), Steve Rodby (bass), Dan Gottlieb (drums), and Nana Vasconcelos (percussion and vocals).
The album won the Grammy Award in 1984 for Best Jazz Fusion Performance, solidifying the group's reputation as one of the most innovative contemporary jazz bands. It features extended versions of known tracks like 'Are You Going with Me?' and 'The Fields, the Sky', as well as exclusive live pieces such as 'Travels' and 'Song for Bilbao'.
Travels is considered a milestone in Metheny's discography for capturing the energy and improvisation of his concerts. The production, handled by Metheny himself, stands out for its sonic clarity and blend of acoustic and electronic textures, characteristic of the ECM label.
