This album was released in 1967 by Columbia Records. The title track, "Waist Deep in the Big Muddy," was initially censored by CBS on the Smothers Brothers show for its criticism of the Vietnam War.
Pete Seeger recorded the album in New York with producer Harold Leventhal. The album blends protest songs with folk ballads and love songs, reflecting the artist's political and social commitment.
Despite the controversy, the album was well received and the title track became an anti-war anthem. Seeger finally performed it on television in 1968 after public pressure.
