The album 'The Siket Disc' was released on November 2, 1999, as a studio EP compiling instrumental material recorded during the sessions for 'The Story of the Ghost' (1998). The title comes from a word invented by drummer Jon Fishman, which has no specific meaning.
The recording sessions took place at Bearsville Studio and at The Barn, the band's home studio in Vermont, between 1997 and 1998. The album was self-produced by the band, without an external producer, and is characterized by being entirely instrumental, focusing on improvisation and sonic experimentation.
The disc includes eight instrumental tracks extracted from the same sessions that gave rise to 'The Story of the Ghost'. Although it was not a massive commercial success, it is valued by Phish fans as a showcase of their more experimental side and as an essential complement to their late-1990s studio discography.
