Sarah Vaughan recorded 'Sarah Slightly Classical' in 1963 for Mercury Records, produced by Bob Shad. The album represents Vaughan's foray into classical and semi-classical repertoire, moving away from her usual jazz and pop.
The album includes songs by composers such as George Gershwin, Jerome Kern, and Richard Rodgers, but arranged with an orchestral approach closer to light classical music. Vaughan worked with arranger and conductor Don Costa to achieve this sound.
Although not one of her most commercial albums, 'Sarah Slightly Classical' showcases Vaughan's vocal versatility and her ability to interpret material outside standard jazz. It was reissued on CD in later years by Verve Records.
