Atum: A Rock Opera in Three Acts is the twelfth studio album by The Smashing Pumpkins, released on May 5, 2023. It is a conceptual sequel to the albums Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness (1995) and Machina/The Machines of God (2000). It was produced by Billy Corgan and recorded in Chicago.
The album was released in three separate acts digitally between 2022 and 2023, before its full physical release. It includes 33 songs and features the 2018 lineup: Billy Corgan, James Iha, Jimmy Chamberlin, and Jeff Schroeder. It is the band's first album on Thirty Tigers.
Atum received generally positive reviews, highlighting its narrative ambition and musical cohesion. It peaked at number 73 on the Billboard 200. The story follows the character Zero, picking up the plot from Machina, and explores themes of redemption and transformation.
