This album is the follow-up to the successful collaboration between Stan Getz and João Gilberto, though it did not achieve the fame of the first volume. It was recorded in October 1964 at A&R Studios in New York, with Astrud Gilberto participating on some tracks.
The record includes songs that did not make it onto the first volume, as well as new recordings. Unlike the original, this album did not feature Antonio Carlos Jobim on piano, though he appears as a composer on several tracks.
Getz/Gilberto Vol. 2 was released by Verve Records in 1964. Although it received positive reviews, it did not repeat the commercial success or Grammy awards of its predecessor, but remains an important piece in the history of bossa nova.
